Assessing for Trauma in Young Children with Developmental

Susan Chinitz, PsyD
Toddlers and preschool age children with developmental delays and
disabilities often come to attention because of disruptive behavior
problems, including high activity level, non-compliance, tantrums and
aggressive behavior. This presentation will address the differential
diagnosis of such behavior problems, with an emphasis on the very
high levels of exposure to violence and other kinds of trauma in
young children in urban communities as well as service planning for
such children, which requires an integration of developmental and
parent-child mental health services.

The Impact of Autism Spectrum Disorders on Dual Diagnosis in Children
John Pomeroy, MD
Independent of intellectual ability, children with Autism Spectrum

are characteristic of the disorder (core symptoms), some related to
the childs cognitive patterns and their interaction with their
environment, and some appear to be due to additional mental disorders

implications for treatment.

The Coordinated Childrens Services Initiative: A
Family-Centered Approach
Angela Mora-Vargas, LMSW
An overview of the Coordinated Childrens Services Initiative in
New York City promotes a core set of values and principles throughout
the system of care that include cooperative interagency planning and
service delivery, individualized care planning and a strength-based
approach that includes families as full partners in all aspects of
service planning. Core values also include the importance of
culturally competent care, the belief that children are best served
when they remain in their home communities while undergoing treatment
