Announcing the Healthy Choices for Healthy Lives Book and Website
Healthy Choices for Healthy Lives is an illustrated book designed to
help individuals with ID and young children without ID to learn about
what they can do to minimize harmful environmental exposures and
maximize their health. The language and pictures keep the
message simple and practical. Topics discussed include air,
food, water, and keeping things clean.
An associated website, www.aaidd.org/ehi/healthychoices,
has been developed. The website allows you to view the book
online in various formats, including the possibility of listening to
an audio version, in an attempt to make the resource accessible.
A PDF of the book can be downloaded, and resources for caregivers,
parents, and teachers are available. A blog offers
readers/viewers the opportunity to share their thoughts. There
are answers to frequently asked questions, as well as an "ask
the experts" section.
NADD, an association for persons with developmental disabilities and
mental health needs, and the American Association on Intellectual and
Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) developed the book and website
with the support of the John Merck Fund.
