Conditions in Young People
|
 |
Ann R. Poindexter, M.D.
Description:
Mental illness contributes a substantial burden of disease worldwide,
with about 450 million people having mental disorders at any given time.
An estimated one in ten children in the U.S. has a mental disorder
that causes some level of impairment, and the effects of mental
illness are evident across the life span, among all ethnic, racial,
and cultural groups, as well as among people of every socioeconomic level.
This book discusses psychiatric conditions in children and
adolescents, both with and without intellectual disability, and
outlines research in the value of early diagnosis to
prevent/ameliorate these conditions. |
